Notes: Raised in 2/43, as the Reds were. The tale concerning the origin of these two regiments is obviously apocryphal, delightful in its utter lack of artifice or skill in its creation. It seems that the Blue Men were the wooers of the Red Women (obviously followers of the goddess) who joined the army to rid themselves of other unwelcome male suitors. The blue men, in sorrow, joined themselves, vowing themselves to brotherhood in battle with their former lovers.

Steel Sword Legion
Type: Elite Heavy Infantry
Corps: Heartland Corps
"I am glad there is only one regiment like this in the world."
Source: Eklastos Jaranthir
Slogans: No Foe is equal to us.
Also Known As:
Training: Drilled, close order
Morale: Elite
Homeland: Temple of the Iron Sword, Moonwall, Silver Shadow
Sponsor: Rufelza
Tradition: Special
Standard: A flag, not a standard
Complement: About 800 soldiers
Shield: Large rectangle
Armor: Chainmail corselet
Weapons: Heavy throwing spear, iron sword
Cult: Steel Sword
Magic:
Uniform:
Notes: Armed with magically-made weapons using a Mostali improvement over simple iron. [The weapons take less damage and do more harm against even metal armor.] The cache was originally gotten from dwarfs, but since the weapons are irreplacable, the unit has been shrinking over time as individual weapons are lost.

Eklastos Jaranthir was a Carmanian general fighting in Loskalm, and he annihilated or drove off an entire army there, save for the Steel Sword Legion, who were defending the body of their dead lord. Eklastos tried nearly everything against their seemingly hopeless position, but the assaults were all failures. When the Steel Swords refused to surrender, the Carmanian dug ditches upon the battlefield and beseiged them. After the proscribed 28 days Eklastos uttered that comment, and in a parley offered to institute hero worship for the dead regimental leader and to accept the legion as full brothers and citizens of the Carmanian empire if they would just quit the field (without surrender) and join him. Since no rescue had come for the Legion in 28 days (a Fronelan custom), they agreed and moved to the city now called Burntwall.

After Burntwall was destroyed, the legions agreed to embrace the ways and empire of the Red Goddess. Their headquarters and training ground was then re-established in Moonwall, in Silver Shadow.

Thunder Delta Slingers (5 Regiments)
Type: Skirmishers
Corps: Heartland Corps
"If you bless the commander in the Goddess' name before the battle, they will have one magically effective volley against cavalry."
Source: Frankonus Bittereye
Slogans: Rock 'em and Sock 'em.
Also Known As: Rockers
Training: Skirmishers
Morale: Regular
Homeland: Korola Ator (hiring point), from Eol
Sponsor: The Elder council of Eol
Tradition: Native Eol
Standard:
Complement: 1,000 soldiers each
Shield: Small
Armor: None, though clothing offers some protection
Weapons: Slings and daggers
Cult: Eol tradition
Magic: Highlight: Kill 'em. The one volley always hits (if in range) and does maximum damage.
Uniform: No uniform, but they dressed in northern furs which were tied open, upon their backs, in the summer
Notes: This "Kill 'Em" highlight is also the "one magically effective volley" that was mentioned above. They threw sacred Thunderflints which the women of this unit all carried. These stones were from the dangerous Thunder Delta Islands, where wounded gods lay and bled out their lives, which dried to leave those mystical flints. Women of this unit sought the stones, and used them as noted above.
